Here you will find the rules and regulations governing our side.

These are the Cheltenham League rules that every team must adhere to.

Rule No. Rule Description
1 The League shall be called the' Cheltenham Skittles League' and any club within six mile radius of Cheltenham shall be eligible for membership. The constituent teams shall be grouped in divisions, each division not to exceed fourteen in number.
2 The Annual General Meeting (at which an audited Balance sheet shall be presented) shall be held before the end of June. A President and Vice-President shall be elected thereat together with the following Honorary Officers : Chairman, Vice- Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer, Three trustees to be elected from the Officers of the Executive Committee.
3 An Executive Committee consisting of Officers, and not more than six members representing the competing teams, shall be appointed annually to administer the affairs of the League, and shall have the power to require team representatives to attend their meetings as may be necessary. The Executive Committee may call a General Meeting as and when they deem necessary , or, alternatively, upon the signed request of not less than twenty four Teams stating the nature of business to be transacted at such meeting.
4 Applications for membership from new teams and re-entry by existing member teams shall be made in writing on the form provided not later than the first Saturday in May accompanied by an entrance or re-entrance fee of £10 per team plus £25 for book of 20 registrations forms, After the main issue of Handbooks and counterfoils, subsequent registrations must be accompanied by suitable addressed envelope appropriately stamped.
5 Teams with the same name shall enter them as 'A' & 'B' and so on.
6 Teams in membership the previous season desirous of changing their names and retaining their League status, shall put their request in writing to the League Secretary at least 14 days prior to the AGM where their request will be discussed, and either granted or refused.
7 A team withdrawing from membership after the fixtures  have been made, or otherwise failing to complete the season's fixtures, should note that future membership is to be at the Executive Committee's discretion.
8 The Cheltenham Skittles League expects games to be played in an enjoyable and sportsmanlike atmosphere. Team support for their own members is encouraged, but personal abuse, intimidation, or gestures to their opposition - any of which can fall within the term ' personal barracking ' WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. This is a reportable offence requiring an appearance before the Executive Committee, who reserve the right to monitor games involving teams against whom complaints have been made, throughout the season. Protests and/ or complaints must be made in writing to the League Secretary within seven days of the incident.
9 Any team found guilty of misconduct, or conduct which, in the opinion of the Executive Committee will bring the game or the League into disrepute' shall be fined not less than £15. In addition, League points may be deducted and their membership of the League may be terminated immediately, Individual players from any team dismissed in this way will not be able to transfer to other teams without the specific permission of the Executive Committee.
10 No team which is in default in the League's Books at the end of the financial year ( second Saturday in May ) shall be eligible for membership in the following season, and any outstanding monies will be apportioned equally between their registered players.
11 Each team shall play each other Home and Away in their respective divisions. At the end of the season the team scoring the highest number of points shall be declared the Champions of their particular division. The method of scoring shall be two points for a win and one point for a tie. Where total points are equal at the end of the season, points won by the teams concerned when they played each other shall be the deciding factor (a mini league among the teams concerned). If points are still equal then the total pins floored by the teams concerned when the played each other shall apply. If the teams are still equal then a play off must take place. This match will be arranged and controlled by the League.
12 The three top teams in each divisions (except in Premier 'A') shall be promoted to the next higher division, and the three bottom teams shall be relegated to the next lower division in the following season unless for special reasons, the Committee decide otherwise. The three bottom teams in the lowest division must seek re-election
13 ALL MATCHES MUST BE PLAYED (points can not be claimed.)
14 Trophy winners shall enter into such written Agreement for the safe return of the Trophies by the following April as determined by the Executive Committee. Fourteen mementoes will be provided by the League for the Champion team of each division.
15 Any team breaking a fixture shall be fined the some of £20.00p (a satisfactory explanation may be accepted in exceptional circumstances.)
16 All fixtures to be arranged by the League Secretary. Men's matches to be confined to Mondays, Tuesdays  and Wednesdays. Ladies matches confined to Wednesdays and Thursdays.
17 If for any reason there are changes in the makeup of any Division, the TEAMS  CONCERNED will be notified officially by the League Secretary.
18 In the event of circumstances arising necessitating the postponement of a League fixture, the Secretary of the team requiring the postponement must first inform and seek agreement of their opponents at least 14 days prior to the fixture, inform the League Secretary in writing, before the original fixture date; this notice must also contain the AGREED rearranged date. Failure in any part of these requirements, and the League shall deem that the offending team have broken a fixture, and the relevant fine imposed.
19 In cases of BAD WEATHER conditions, as much time as possible MUST be given to your opponents.
20 Notice of the postponement must be made in writing to the League Secretary within 72 hours of the fixture. All re-arrangements are the responsibility of the team requesting the postponement, whether they are the Home or Away team. Matches must be re-arranged at the original venue (unless otherwise agreed by both teams.) All postponed matches must be played within 28 days or the final day of the season, whichever is the shorter period. Should there be any disagreement over the re-arranged date between the two teams, the League Secretary will arrange the fixture, this date will be final  and not subject to alteration.
21 Re-arranged matches will not necessarily  be held on a normal match night.
22 Each team shall consist of 12 registered players, and shall be divided into 4 sets of 3, each to bowl 3 balls (1 hand) alternately with their opponents until 18 balls (6 hands) are completed. At the end of the match the team flooring the highest number of pins shall be the winners.
23 Once a match has commenced, the set of pins and balls shall not be changed. In the event of circumstances arising whereby a change is necessary, then the opposing captain must be consulted.
24 All matches shall commence at 8.00p.m. The next three players of each team shall be on the alley ready to play immediately the previous set is completed, unless otherwise mutually agreed by the two Captains. Teams failing to comply shall be dealt with by the Executive Committee.
25 In the event of a team being incomplete, any match once started shall for the first offence and fined £5 per player short for each subsequent offence. Matches abandoned through lighting failures etc., shall in all cases, be replayed within 28 days or final day of the season, whichever is the shorter period. 
26 The costs of each match shall be borne by the Home team.
27 Simultaneous Cheltenham League matches on double alleys shall not be permitted.
28 In the event of a genuine accident resulting in an injury and /or sudden illness  - during a game - a player may be substituted by another registered player, providing both teams agree to the substitution. Should this occur, a letter outlining the details should be submitted to the League Secretary within seven days of the match.
29 The Front Pin must be clearly marked with a white band around the top half of the pin, and the two Front Quarter Pins shall also be marked in a manner distinguishable from the Front Pin.
30 Three lines shall be drawn on the alley. 1st. Line, this represents the back (this can be a wall or an imaginary line), 2nd. Line, at least 8 feet from 1st Line for the players run up, 3rd. Line 8 feet from the 2nd. line.
31 In delivering the ball player's feet must be behind the second line, and the ball must strike the floor before passing over the third line. Each Home team , unless otherwise agreed, shall appoint a Hockey Judge who shall call " No Ball " if this rule is not adhered to, and that decision shall be final. The name of the Hockey Judge must be given to the visiting Captain before the start of the match.
32 A ball touching the cush on either side of the alley before striking the pins shall be a " No-Ball ".
33 Any pins floored with a " No-Ball " shall not count and shall be re-set. All pins must be down FLAT to count.
34 In order to protect alley surfaces all players are asked to ensure that they wear appropriate shoes.
35 All players must be at least 18 years of age and be registered at least 7 clear days before participating in a League match. The date of the postmark or the date the registration form is handed to the League Secretary shall count as the first day. A player shall not sign a registration form for more than one team in the same season, the penalty for so doing shall be a fine of £10 with suspension from playing until payment is made, the first signature only to be valid.
36 Any team knowingly playing ineligible players shall be penalised as follows: (i) A fine of £10 shall be imposed on each ineligible player played. (ii)  Two points shall be deducted from the offending team's total points, and, in addition, both points for the match shall be awarded to  their opponents.
37 It shall be the responsibility of the HOME TEAM to ensure that each player before commencing to play personally signs their name in ink on the OFFICIAL RESULT CARD, failing which the Home team shall be fined £4 for the first offence and £6 for each subsequent offence. (Players normal signatures are the only ones that the League will accept). At the conclusion of the match either the Team Secretary or the Captain of both teams shall append their signature in the appropriate places, this indicates to the League that this is the final and agreed result. RESULTS SIGNED FOR ON RESULT CARDS WILL STAND and NOT be altered under any circumstances.
38 If a team wishes to make a complaint to the League for a rule infringement that could affect the result of a match, then the Captain's/Secretary's signature should not be appended in the appropriate place at the bottom of the Result Card. The opposing Captain/Secretary of the team must be made aware of the pending complaint and of its nature. All complaints must be made in writing to the League Secretary within 7 days of the match.
39 In recognition of genuine errors on result cards an appeal procedure will be introduced as from the 2003-2004 season. Written evidence must be received within seven days of the publication of the result   and that both teams will be required to appear before the Executive Committee. Should the error be ratified, both teams will be fined not less than £25 each, prior to the result being amended.
40 The Home team shall forward the correctly completed official result card to reach the League Secretary before 10.00 p.m. within 3 days of the match, Ladies games played on Wednesdays should be returned by the Saturday following the match and for games played on Thursdays by Monday following the match, Any team  in default shall be fined £4 for the first offence and £6 for each subsequent offence.
41 Any alteration to individual or final scores on the Result Card must be initialed by the Away team Captain.
42 A registered player desiring a transfer to another team must make an application to the League Secretary for a form provided for this purpose. The player desiring a transfer must then obtain the Secretary's signature of both teams he/she is leaving and the team he/she is joining. If an objection is raised the Executive Committee shall have the power to refuse or grant the transfer, such transfer can not be unreasonably withheld. From the date a transfer is granted a player shall be eligible to play at the expiration of seven days. A fee equal to the current player's registration fee must accompany each application for transfer.
43 No transfer shall be permitted after January 31st. in any one season.
44 It shall be a condition of membership that every team participates in the Charities Cup Knock-Out Competition, and that in all such matches the Home team shall make a collection for the benefits of the Charities Fund, which must be forwarded to the League Secretary, accompanied by the correctly completed Result Card, within three days of the match. In this Competition transfers will not be permitted.
45 In the event of a tie, the Away team shall become the Home team and the replay shall take place the following week. If this is not possible, then permission must be obtained from the League Secretary, when he/she will set a deadline, and this date shall be final. In the event of a further tie then both Captains shall select three players for a sudden death play-off.
46 In all such matches a collection for the Fund shall be made. In the event a team fails to send in a collection the Committee shall reserve the right to fine the offending team by the average amount of the collections taken in the previous season's competition. Any such fine would go to the Charity Fund.
47 Clubs must reply to official correspondence from the League within 14 days failing which a fine of £10 shall be imposed.
48 All fines must be paid within 14 days of notification failing which they shall be doubled. If the increased fine remains unpaid after 28 days the team shall be further dealt with by the Executive Committee.
49 Any matter not covered by these rules shall be dealt with by the Executive Committee, and their decision shall be final.
